Two new surveys show which airlines give the best service, food and prices, according to travelers. But both show that while passenger satisfaction may be improving, air travel is not what it once was. According to CNN, air travelers are more content with carriers. The results of the University of Michigan’s latest American Customer Satisfaction Index for the airline industry are similar to the JD Power and Associates 2010 North American Airline Satisfaction Study.
The studies showed the fewer people are flying and passengers that are choosing air travel are figuring out how to avoid pesky fees for food and baggage. “Airlines are creating more satisfied passengers, but the… data suggest this won’t last for long,” said Claes Fornell, founder of the satisfaction index, in a statement reported by CNN. “Airlines are already beginning to charge higher fares. Flights are becoming more crowded, and the increasing number of carry-ons could lead to cabin congestion and delays.” Here’s a list of how the major airlines scored according to satisfaction rankings. It was Southwest Airlines’ 17th straight year at number one.
2. Continental Airlines
3. American Airlines
4. Delta Air Lines
5. US Airways
6. Northwest Airlines
7. United Airlines
Fans of Southwest say the airline provides more perks for your money. They also say the flight attendants are the friendliest. Also seen as having friendly attendants are Delta/Northwest, JetBlue and American. It’s no shocker that the studies also found that travelers don’t like paying for things they used to get for free, such as checked bags or carry-ons. Those fees came in at the top of the list of things people dislike about flying.
However, there are some things that travelers polled say they’re willing to pay for: alcoholic drinks, Internet access and more legroom are a few. Fewer than one percent say they’d be willing to pay for a pillow or a blanket. And when it came to food, Delta/Northwest came in first for serving the worst.
