Is it possible that reality TV isn’t exactly real? Turns out the lavish lifestyle captured by Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey isn’t what it seems. Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe live in a mansion with their four daughters and are often filmed on shopping trips, but the Real Housewife announced they’re broke. “While this is a personal matter, I realize that certain aspects of my private life will always be subject to scrutiny and distortion,” Giudice, 38, said in People magazine. The couple is filing for bankruptcy as a fresh start after owing more than $10 million to creditors, according to reports.
Documents examined by the New York Daily News show the reality show couple has $8.7 in liabilities and are also $2.6 million behind in mortgages on their three homes, one of which is often seen on episodes of the show. It’s a $1.7 million mansion in Towaco, New Jersey. The couple says their monthly expenses total $16,582 while each of their paychecks total about $3,300. An additional $10,000 in monthly support comes from family. Documents show the couple owes $104,000 in store credit cards for shopping at places like Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. They also owe $85,000 for home repairs and $12,000 in fertility treatments. “When people fall, the way to success is to get up and learn from our mistakes,” Teresa told People Magazine. “We are in that process.”
