America has been struggling to cope with the recent downward turn of the economy. A highly volatile market for gas, food, and other consumables has left the nation with a problem of high prices and a weaken dollar. In response, the Federal Government worked aggressively at crafting a Stimulus Package that they hoped would alleviate the financial problems that millions of Americans are dealing with daily. However, almost just as many Americans believe that the tax rebates are ineffective – over 4/5ths of them do, in fact.
According to the results of a recent poll, the vast majority of U.S citizens believe that the stimulus checks that are being sent out currently won’t do much of any good in regards to boosting the weakened economy. In fact, four out of every five Americans agree that the $110b effort put out by the Government will do nothing at all to help revitalize an economically sluggish America.
The economic aid program, released with the rare unanimous support of both major governmental parties earlier this year, will deliver tax rebate checks to over 130 American individuals and families. The majority of single U.S citizens earning less than an annual income of $75k who filed taxes will receive up to an amount of $600, and married couples who earn $150k or less could be looking at receiving over $1k.
The U.S Treasury has already sent out close to 30m checks, a collective value of tax rebates totaling over $27b dollars. But of the thousand or so individuals polled, only a little over 10% of them though that the stimulus package is at least sufficient to stimulate the economy.
In contrast, a large number of economists agree with each other and the government in that the tax rebates will result in a positive boost for the economy. A few of these economic experts have stepped forth to say that they believe spending will jump in the third and fourth quarters of 2008 once all of the stimulus checks have been mailed out.
